Random Book-related rambles
I just found this tutorial to make clutches from old books. And I was like “Oh, man, I still have those books in the basement, they might make nice clutch purses.”
What’s “those books”? Well a few years ago I bid on a silent auction and won a full set of Elbert Hubbard’s Little Journeys at a book sale. I only bid because I went to high school in East Aurora, the home of the Roycroft movement. I paid $10 for a set of 14 books, leather bound, printed around the 1920s.
Some are in fairly good condition overall. Others the covers are a bit worn. Some the spines are so bad you can’t open it without the pages falling out. I even worked on restoring one copy, which came out well. My goal was to restore all them but I stopped.
This prompted some internet searching.
And this guy here is selling the same exact set in good condition for $500 on eBay.
Christ. I should really pack those books up and go get them appraised sometime. Right now they’re just sitting in one of my many boxes of books in the basement.
